I clicked into this expecting at least a concrete prompt, a workflow, or a complaint worth arguing with. Instead the source is basically just “Reddit.” That’s almost comically thin, and it makes me suspicious that the extraction went wrong or the post is missing the actual content. If the discussion really was about using Claude Code for research papers, then the interesting part would be whether people are treating it like a paper reader, a citation helper, or a sloppy substitute for actual literature review. But there’s nothing here to react to except the absence.
That said, the title alone points to a pattern I’ve been seeing a lot: people want Claude Code to do more than code. Researchers and developers keep reaching for it when the task turns messy and text-heavy, because it can feel faster than juggling PDFs, notes, and searches by hand. I get the appeal. I’d still be cautious. “For research papers” can mean anything from summarizing a couple of abstracts to building an evidence chain across twenty sources, and those are wildly different jobs. The second one is where hallucinations and citation slippage become a real problem.
If I were using Claude Code in that setting, I’d want it to stay close to source text and be explicit about uncertainty. Not “tell me the answer,” but “extract claims, quote the lines, compare methods, and flag where the paper is weak.” That’s the version of the tool that feels genuinely useful. The version where it pretends to be a researcher is the one that tends to go off the rails.
