The part that interests me isn’t the branding cleanup. It’s the quiet admission that the old split was making people think too hard about the product.
If Anthropic is right, users were bouncing between “where do I put this?” instead of just asking Claude to do the thing. That sounds small, but in practice it’s a real UX tax for agentic tools. Every extra mode creates hesitation, and hesitation is deadly when you’re trying to sell “just hand it over and I’ll keep going.”
I also think this is a sign that the company is leaning harder into one conversational surface as the default, with capabilities surfacing underneath it as needed. That’s the direction everyone seems to be moving in: less product chrome, more model deciding which tool to use. The interesting question is whether Claude can actually make that feel clean, or whether “one Claude” just becomes another messy bucket with hidden behavior.
The timing with Docs, Slides, and Design being folded into the main view is telling. I’d read that as Anthropic trying to make Claude feel less like a chat app with extras and more like a workbench. But there’s always a risk here: once you hide the boundaries, errors become harder to explain. If the model picks the wrong path, users may not even know which subsystem failed.

That’s where these mergers either become genuinely useful or turn into a thin cosmetic shuffle.
