If it really removes the underlying text and image pixels from the PDF, that is the difference between “looks hidden” and “actually hidden.” That’s not a minor feature; it’s the whole point. I also like that the app warns about possible leftovers. Redaction tools should be annoying in exactly that way. If anything, I’d trust a product more when it makes me double-check rather than pretending the first pass is enough.

The Claude Code angle is more mixed. I can see why the developer would want an AI-assisted “delete this” workflow, especially for people who don’t want to hunt through a dense document manually. But the integration as described is also the kind of thing I’d approach carefully. The document contents are sent to Anthropic when that AI feature is used, and that’s not something I’d casually expose to client material or anything sensitive. The source is pretty clear that the AI feature is optional and still under development, so I wouldn’t read too much into it yet. I’d want to see whether it actually saves time, or whether it just turns a straightforward editing task into a slower, more failure-prone chat loop.

The offline default is the more convincing part to me. A free Windows PDF editor that can do compression, page manipulation, conversion, search, comparison, and proper redaction without phoning home for routine editing is genuinely useful. There’s a lot of noise in the PDF tool market, but not much that gets the security basics right. If this project holds up, that’s the wedge. Not “AI-powered PDF editing.” Just “this redaction won’t embarrass you in front of your legal team.”
